Lost is Making Me Crazy

I have now invested over a year of my life in the only television show I religiously watch and I still have no idea what is happening to the gang of castaways on the island in Lost. Nobody knows as a matter of fact what the heck is happening on that island.

I've seen a lot of crazy things take place, for instance Lock looking into the face of a monster or Echo staring into the smoke. I've seen Jack chase his dead father through the jungle and Sawyer get shot 9 times and live. This week however was the straw that broke the camels back. Charlie (the British Rock God) dreamt that his mother and another woman from the island were Mary and Joseph holding Jesus. I'm not religious so this didn't offend me but it was beyond kooky. It's as if the writers are trying to see how far they push it before viewers get fed up.

I have five questions for the writers:
1) Who are the Others?
2) What is the hatch all about?
3) What happened to Desmond?
4) Are they alive or dead?
5) What the hell is going on?
I honestly believe they don't even know.

Personally I think they're dead. Trapped in a sort of Pergatory waiting to defeat their demons. Hopefully we'll find out soon.
What do you think is happening on that island?

I think the writers discredited the idea of the characters being in purgatory. It's a long shot (and I always share this to others) but this theory seems to be spot on with the show.

I think i has something to do with the bermuda triangle. Thas why there are so many different types of ships and airplanes that end up on the island. I think when the button isnt pressed that something new is cast onto this island.

It seems to me that its a government project gone wrong, and thats why they put someone in that hatch to push the button every time. so no more people would get stuck on the island.

The other topics I really have no good ideas for.

          This says it all:

I honestly believe they don't even know.

JJ Abrams has no clue what's going on.. and this season that's very noticeable. It's been a real down tick of a season.

Earlier this month I had this topic on my site. My thought is this is a group theropy session, check the link for more details.

First off, it's not purgatory. The writers/producers have flat out said as much.

I'd suggest listening to the LOST Podcast ABC does with two of the producers. They do shed some light on things and also fully admit that there is a chance viewers will never get all the answers they want.

The most interesting part of last night for me was Eko and Locke having conflicting views on baptism and thus religion itself. there should be some interesting conflicts between those two eventually.

                Leading theory:

They are on the north pole. Magnetic fields, polar bears, and some dirty guy who looks like Santa Claus. It is air-tight.

Here is the best theory to date. There is not much here you can argue with.

Not to rag, but no one has any clue more than anyone else. There are a bunch of real websites, fake websites, planted postings, and a TON of people who think they have the idea. I've seen fake filmstrips made "from" the Dharma Initiative. Crazy stuff...great show, but people take it WAY too seriously. Enjoy it, don't obsess.

Let's just agree that it's a long-winded, drawn-out show clutching for straws. The constant inctroduction of irrelevant and uninteresting plot points that look like they'll be resolved in season 4 makes me fuzzy.

I was discussing Lost with a friend of mine who is just now watching the season 1 DVDs. He asked about certain mysteries from the 1st season and I found most of my answers to be, "Oh that went nowhere."

I was a big fan of Alias but the it went down hill fast. I hope JJ doesn't let the same thing happen with Lost.

Walt went away because the actor had a growth spurt and no longer looks the age he was playing.

J.J. Abrams has some great ideas that involve intriguing characters and even more involving backstories. The reality though is that he cannot write an ending. Just as Alias turned into a watered down soap opera, I believe Lost was lost from the get go.

A better alternative would be to pick up the 60s TV series called The Prisoner -- at least we know what the island is and it still stays interesting.

I agree with Eric Faris above that this theory:

                              http://www.4815162342.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3377

is the most likely scenario. The scenario this guy presents seems even more likely when watching some of the shows again.

For what it's worth, this problem is covered under #3 and #4 in my list of 12 deadly sins for network television.

Good luck with the mysteries, though.

I think that the writers know what's going on. The the show is their "baby" and they might be a little afraid that if they give the audience too much info people wont watch anymore. If all the questions have been answered what's left?

Heavy (speculative) spoilers. If he turns out to be right I would think you'll regret having read his guesses. People seem to think this is the best theory yet.

Although I enjoy the show, it too am not really up on the details and haven't wasted too many brain cells contemplating their reality. My concern early on was that there was a genuine storry arc and that they actually had a plan in mind with the story. Chances are (like the X-Files) that most mysteries will not be explained until the show runs out of gas or they lose a boatload of viewrers.

It's happened too often in the past...

Ok how many people here just bit torrent the show, rather than waiting for the lame networks?

In the UK I think like Season One just finished, so if you go probably *anywhere* on the internet you find spoilers. (Dude, you don't know what's *inside* the hatch??)
